Get set for summer and celebrate Fantastic Mr Fox at the Roald Dahl Museum
If you’re looking for a brilliant family day out this summer, then look no further than the Roald Dahl Museum in Buckinghamshire. There’s something for everyone, from gallery trails and storytelling to a host of Fantastic Fox workshops and activities for all ages (even you, adults!).
Whatever the weather you’ll find some hands-on family fun come rain or shine.
- Enjoy craft, animation and writing workshops in our air-conditioned workshop rooms.
- Stretch your legs and take a walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside – and head to the woods when it’s hot. Look out for guided and self-guided walks.
- Explore our three packed galleries, full of interactive things to do, if it rains (including a film set from the Wes Anderson Fantastic Mr Fox film).
- Gather in our sunny courtyard and play with our Fantastic Mr Fox outdoor games. Boggis V Mr Fox giant Connect 4 anyone?
- Splash about with our waterplay tables and enjoy an ice cream.

All sorts of foxy fun
Play, make and build. Our creative workshops will leave kids buzzing with ideas! From making diggers out of junk to creating fox feasts out of clay. Adults are welcome to help, or pay to make their own. These workshops really make a great family day out!
You can also get stuck in with paper craft and make a fold-out townscape. Or get a fantastic dose of the great outdoors and explore the village with our expert guide, Michael. He’ll tell you about some of the local places that inspired the stories.
Very little ones aren’t forgotten with special fox cub sessions for under 4s. Craft, song and play inspired by Fantastic Mr Fox (and in an air-conditioned room to keep everyone cool!).
Extra-special events
If you want to treat the family to an extra-special experience, we have some exclusive events running this summer.
- Spend the day making a stop-motion animation with an experienced animator. Be inspired by the Fantastic Mr Fox film set in the Museum before designing and sculpting clay creatures, creating miniature sets, and learning the magic of stop-motion filmmaking. Designed for families to work together to make a family film.
- Go on a family poetry adventure. Head off into the woods that inspired Fantastic Mr Fox with poet Will Burns. Explore the landscape, work together to generate ideas and come away with your own family poem to treasure for years to come.
- Peek behind the scenes of the Museum. Learn about our top archive treasures and secrets on this quick dive into Roald Dahl’s world.

Don’t forget that there’s lots included for free with your Museum entry. You can also visit us again, as your Museum admission is valid for re-entry for a whole year — you can’t get more fantastic than that!
