At the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre we welcome all visitors and aim to do everything we can to make sure you have a buzzwangling time.
We hope that you will find everything that you’re looking for on these pages, but please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any specific special needs; we always endeavour to adapt according to your requirements.

Planning your visit

Getting here
- You can get to The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre by bus and train. The nearest bus stop is the library bus stop, located on Link Road 0.2 miles / 0.3 km from the Museum. The nearest train station is Great Missenden, 0.2 miles / 0.3 km from the Museum.
- We do not have a car park on site. However, the Link Road Council Pay and Display car park is 250 metres from the Museum.
- There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point has a dropped kerb.
- There is a disabled parking bay on the High Street, located 118 meters from the Museum.
Tickets
- People who are registered disabled receive a discounted entry price and registered carers receive free admission. You can book concessionary tickets online by using the ‘ Registered Disabled’ and ‘Free Carer Ticket’ options, or call us on 01494 892192.
- We do not ask to see proof of your registered status and trust that you know the correct ticket type that you need.
Site access
- The Museum galleries and Shop are all fully wheel – and push chair accessible as we are a step-free site. One of our spaces (the Front Room) has a small step (we are a listed building and unable to change our layout) but a ramp is available for you to use. This room is usually used for additional seating for The Canny Café or for occasional events.
- There is an upstairs picnic room and event space. You can reach this floor by a lift.
- We have two fully accessible loos.
Wheelchair
- You may borrow a manual wheelchair, though we do advise contacting us in advance to ensure it is available – please email hello@roalddahlmuseum.org or call 01494 892192.
Baby change and buggies
- We have a baby change room as well as baby changing facilities for parents/carers in wheelchairs.
- There’s a buggy store to leave your buggies in, but you are also welcome to use them around the site.
Assistance dogs
- Assistance dogs are welcome. We can provide a water bowl on request.
Display information
- There are audio clips and sound effects played in the galleries and toilets.
- We have display information in audio.
- We have our Museum guide and Story Ideas Books in large print.
Site lighting
- Some parts of the Museum have low lighting.

- Assistance dogs are welcome at the museum. Buryfield Recreation Ground, which is located 0.3 miles away from the Museum, can be used for their needs. We can provide a water bowl on request.
Display information
- We have a hearing loop in the shop at both the ticket and shop counters, Boy Gallery, Solo gallery and the Story Centre.
- You can access transcripts of audio visual presentations in the galleries.
- There are audio clips and sound effects played in the galleries which can be adjusted on request.
BSL interpretation
- There are Signly markers around the Museum which display BSL interpretation on a smart phone. Simply scan the QR code on each marker to access this.

- Assistance dogs are welcome at the museum. Buryfield Recreation Ground, which is located 0.3 miles away from the Museum, can be used for their needs. We can provide a water bowl on request.

Free SEND kits
- You can borrow one of our free SEND Explorer Bags from the ticket desk. This includes sunglasses, ear defenders, baseball cap, Makaton cards, fidget toys, torch, magnifying glass, large photographs, Museum map, basic trail and emotions card.
- There’s a pop-up Quiet Space Kit available to use free of charge. This includes a pop-up tent, weighted blanket, ear defenders, Museum map and emotions card. Ask at the ticket desk.

Gallery information
- There are audio clips and sound effects played in the galleries which can sometimes be loud. These can be adjusted on request.
- Quieter times to visit are after 2.30pm Thursday to Sunday outside of the school holidays.
SEND visits
- We run a programme of SEND visits for schools and groups.
Staff training
- We have emergency evacuation procedures for disabled visitors.
- We have two Evac+ chairs located on the first floor areas, with all Duty Officers being trained in their use.
- All staff have disability awareness training.
- Some staff have Next Generation Text training.
- Some staff have BSL training.

Changing Places toilet
We don’t currently have a Changing Places toilet at the Museum.
