George’s Awesome Animals May Half-Term

Wednesday 15 April

Go wild this May half-term with Roald Dahl-inspired animal adventures

Looking for a fun-filled family day out this May half-term? Step into the wonderfully wild world of Roald Dahl, where curious creatures and marvellous inventions come to life!

Inspired by the animals found in Roald Dahl’s stories, including the unforgettable George’s Marvellous Medicine, we have a packed programme of events to help you explore, create and discover together.

  • Meet real-life creatures with Jungle Juniors. Don’t miss the chance to get up close with amazing animals in our live experiences hosted by Jungle Juniors. From slithering reptiles to furry friends, these sessions bring the magic of Dahl’s animal-inspired tales into the real world.
  • Get hands-on with George’s Marvellous Miniature Farmyard. Get creative in our craft workshops where little inventors can design their own landscapes inspired by the farmyard in the book. Expect plenty of colour, imagination and maybe a little bit of mess.
  • Sparky storytelling. Settle in for lively storytelling sessions packed with Dahl’s signature humour and a cast of unforgettable animal characters from George’s Marvellous Medicine. From clever creatures to chaotic concoctions, these tales are sure to delight listeners of all ages.

'It's growing!' he yelled. 'It's growing Grandma!'

George's Marvellous Medicine

Why not also…

Entertain your marvellous under 5s
Littlies are not left out either! If you are bringing under 5s with you, make sure you pick up a Charlie Bucket from the ticket desk to help you explore, or  — better still — book onto one of the Marvellous Minis workshops on Thursday 28 May. Your titchy explorers will be able to join in with storytelling, songs, crafts and play with a Roald Dahl twist.

Join in with BSL signed activities
On Monday 25 May we’ll be hosting a special day of BSL signed activities. Come along to enjoy some energetic signed storytelling from George’s Marvellous Medicine, or head out on a signed Village Walk packed with facts and with storytelling snippets along the way, with trained actor Michael. Both are signed by Helen, who is BSL Level 6 qualified.

Build your own marvellous LEGO® animal
Follow our guides to make a chicken, fox or badger, or simply use the LEGO to create your own awesome animal. Once you’re done, break it all up for the next person to play! Available all week – just drop-in while you’re here.

See rare items from our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory collection
Peek into our special cabinet in Solo Gallery to see some of the great Charlie and the Chocolate Factory items we have in the Museum collection, from Golden Tickets and chocolate bars to Willy Wonka’s top hat, coat and cane from the 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film.
