Christmas at the Roald Dahl Museum

Friday 17 October

Get some quality family time booked and head to the Museum this Christmas
Meet Santa (and some Oompa-Loompas!)

Christmas kicks-off at the Roald Dahl Museum with some splendiferous Santa days on 6 and 13 December. On these magical days you can meet Santa as he roams the galleries and get a chocolate treat. You can also enjoy storytelling from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Mrs Claus, meet the Oompa Loompas, enjoy drop-in Christmas crafts and a Christmas gallery trail.

The best bit is that everything is included in your Museum admission, including seeing Santa and your chocolate treat!

Make the most of ‘Twixmas’

There are some very special activities happening between Christmas and New Year so you can make the most of the holidays.

Come face-to-face with some of James’ insect friends with Jungle Juniors on 27 December, or go on a magical guided stroll through the woods on 28 December to find out about Roald’s last book for children, Billy and the Minpins.

You’ll also be able to spend some quality family time exploring the interactive galleries, listening to storytelling, dressing up, crafting and enjoying a treat or two from the Filling-Station.

Some special treats ‘for your eyes only’

This winter you can also see the signed first draft of the screenplay of the Bond film You Only Live Twice on display. This Bond script was written by Dahl in the 1960s. He was a close friend of Ian Fleming and was tasked with turning a first draft around in just eight weeks! If you’re a Bond fan make sure you pop into Solo Gallery to find out more from 13 November to 31 January.

Get out and stretch your legs!

If you’re in need of a bit of fresh air over Christmas we have a load of ways to get you out and about! The Museum is based in the beautiful Chiltern Hills, in the village Roald lived and wrote in for 36 years, which makes for the perfect seasonal backdrop for your visit.

Pick up our Story or Science activity packs to help you to get out and explore – maybe with a quick pit-stop at the playground on the way! Or take our self-guided trails around the local village or woods to see sights that inspired the stories — from Mr Fox’s woods to Sophie’s orphanage in The BFG.

There’s plenty of great pubs and cafes on our doorstep if you need refreshment, plus our very own Filling-Station serving up locally sourced snacks, sweet treats and hot and cold drinks. Make the most of a visit to the village by enjoying the local playgrounds, playing fields and the library (the very one that inspired the library in Matilda, no less). See our local pages for more information.

Tremendous things are in store for you!
